Meet Luz Aponte: An Elementary School Teacher and Devoted Dog Mom

Meet Luz Aponte, an elementary school teacher from Orlando, Florida, and proud dog mom to her beloved canine companion, Oreo. Inspired by their children’s desire for a furry friend, Luz and her family decided it was the perfect time to welcome a dog into their lives when they moved to a bigger house. Oreo, a mellow and lovable companion, has his moments of demand, especially when it’s time for a walk after dinner. His name was an easy choice, as his black and white coat resembled that of an Oreo cookie when he was just a puppy.

HELLO LUZ APONTE, WELCOME TO DOGOPPO! WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A DOG PARENT?
Our kids wanted a dog for the longest time, so when we moved to a bigger house , we thought that it was the perfect time to get one.

When he was a puppy,  he was black and white like an Oreo cookie.

WHAT’S THE MOST MISCHIEVOUS THING YOUR DOG HAS EVER DONE?
Around Christmas time I was preparing a gift basket and left it in the laundry, we went out for dinner and when we came back, he was finishing eating a whole bar of dark chocolate that somehow, he got from the basket, he ended up in the emergency room.

WHAT’S YOUR DOG’S FAVORITE TREAT?
Oranges

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT A SPECIAL MOMENT YOU’VE SHARED WITH YOUR DOG?
Every day is a special moment, the way he greets us when we come back from work it makes us smile and happy.

WHAT’S THE MOST CHALLENGING THING ABOUT BEING A DOG PARENT?
When we travel and we can’t take him we have to leave him with someone we trust.

HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR DOG HEALTHY AND HAPPY?
We give him highly-rated dog food, lots of attention, and exercise.

HOW HAS YOUR LIFE CHANGED SINCE BECOMING A DOG PARENT?
It’s like having another child that brings joy every day.

WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO’S CONSIDERING BECOMING A DOG PARENT?
It’s a lot of responsibility, there are dogs that need lots of attention and dogs that don’t, some shed hair, some don’t, some eat very little, some a lot. Do your research first, plan accordingly, and then make a decision of what kind of dog you can get.
